Basketball Rules

Basketball is a sport that is played by two teams of five players each. The objective of the game is to score points by shooting the ball through the opponent’s basket. A team scores two points for a successful field goal, and three points for a successful shot from behind the three-point line.

The game is played on a rectangular court, and each team has its own basket at one end of the court. The game starts with a jump ball at center court, and the team that wins the jump ball gets possession of the ball. From there, each team tries to score points by shooting the ball into their opponent’s basket.

There are many rules in basketball that govern how the game is played. Some of these rules include:

• Each team is allowed seven fouls per half. Once a team reaches seven fouls, they enter what is called “the bonus”. This means that every time they commit another foul, their opponents are awarded free throws.

• A player who committed a foul can be removed from the game if it is determined to be flagrant or if he accumulates too many personal fouls.

• The clock stops when there is a dead ball situation (i.e., when the ball goes out-of-bounds, when a player commits a foul, etc.). It also stops during timeouts and other stoppages in play.
